so i was out for a walk w/nugget this evening, and the usual array of animals were out and about. the crows were all caw-ing from the wirelines. we have a few ducks in the neighbourhood that swim in the creek, and this past weekend 2 canada geese suddenly appeared.
then out of the corner of my eye, i spotted movement in the weeds. a small dark coloured creature was slowly plodding away. at first i thought it was a large skunk, but it didn't have the signature white stripe. then it walked into the clearing and i saw the big flat tail that only a beaver has. yikes! how did a beaver make it's way into this burnaby 'hood? what a strange sight! he was content as could be and wasn't bothered by me or nugget....he just kept swimming around in the new pond from all the rainwater. weird, eh?

just call me tracey homemaker
good lord. i never thought i'd see the day that i actually baked muffins! but i did it last night. i'm not sure what came over me, but i made blueberry muffins. i was inspired over the weekend to start eating healthier, starting with breakfasts. as much as i love the starbucks vanilla cupcakes w/my grande latte every morning, it's not exactly the ideal start to a morning.
actually, i do know what got to me. since i have nugget all week, it's just easier for me to pack all my food along in my backpack, instead of trudging out in the rain everywhere. so, therefore, i've had to plan ahead. yesterday before i left home i had maple & brown sugar oatmeal and today i've got 2 of my blueberry muffins (they're fairly small). i'm very fussy when it comes to baked goods, and i've already lost interest in my 2nd muffin. they were so much better when they were fresh out of the oven. i thought that adding an extra cup of blueberries to the recipe would help but apparently not....it still looks and tastes like a muffin :P but on a happier note, my hubby loves blueberry muffins, so he's absolutely tickled pink at my new baking hobby :-)
oh well. i'm trying out a new fish recipe for dinner tonight so hopefully that goes well!

planes, trains and automobiles
i'm such a keener! in exactly 9 weeks, chris and i will be on our next vacation :-) over a 3.5 week period, we'll do a whirlwind tour of halifax, cape breton island, charlottetown, toronto, vernon (connecticut - only to visit family), new york city, montreal and quebec city. we had originally planned for ottawa as well, but opted to go to new york instead!
i'm very excited right now because yesterday i made the last of our arrangements. our flights are booked, our trains are booked and our accommodations are booked. all we need to do now is wait. and we all know how impatient tres can be :P it's going to be a long 9 weeks......
speaking of planning ahead, we've also booked our flights to las vegas for ang & ryan's stag & stagette weekend :-) so much to look forward to! i can't wait!

5-0, 5-0, here they come!
curiosity killed the cat. and that's probably what's going to happen to me one day. i'm so bloody nosy, i have to know everything that's going on. i can't stand not knowing!
last night i decided around 11:30 that it was time for bed. however, that was not meant to be. out of the corner of my eye i saw flashing lights, so i went to investigate. turns out there was a police car in our driveway. then i looked further, and there was a 2nd one. both of them were blocking the parkade entrance/exit. after watching for awhile and realizing that they weren't letting cars through, i decided that i needed to get up close and personal and find out what was up. apparently midnight is a good time to take out the garbage and recycling :-) so off i trudged to get a closer look.....turns out there was a 3rd police car blocking the visitors parking in the back. unfortunately i wasn't able to see anything further than the 3 police cars.
now i'll just have to speculate about what transpired in our driveway late last night. chris' theory is there was a high-speed chase that somehow ended at our building and the cops were taking down the driver. i don't really believe that, because i didn't hear any sirens or screeching brakes. we have a row of townhomes by the driveway, so it's possible one of them was broken into. hopefully i'll have an answer after the next strata meeting. who knows.
never a dull moment in my building :P

what kind of name is nugget?
ah, poor puppy....i'm not a big fan of his name, but nugget's just a cutey! i'm bringing him home w/me for the weekend....another yellow lab.....i think he's just over 4 months now. i actually attended the puppy class w/him last week, and asides from a few unappreciated behaviours, he was pretty good. a lot better than his 2 sisters, ruby & diamond! those 2 are nothing but trouble :S
i learned at class last week that i need to be a lot more assertive w/my voice. no really means no, and not "no, but you're just so doggone cute, that i'll let you off the hook this time." also i need to allow the puppies to make the mistakes so they'll learn, and not just try to anticipate what they might do and then take assertive action before they actually do it. it's a lot to remember, which is why i'm going to attend more puppy classes in the future.
in case anyone's interested in visiting the PADS site, they're having an open house for their new client dormitory on march 24. also, the graduating dogs of 2007 will be crossing the stage on march 31. i'll be there with my bone-shaped sugar cookies!

where has the time gone?! i'm no spring chicken!
all i can say is "wow"! i usually never feel the effects of daylight savings, but this year really messed me up. did anyone else have problems sleeping? i was up until 3:30 a.m. this morning trying to sleep :P i was not a happy camper when my alarm went off at 6:15!
i'm just a little wired right now....i dragged chris to the christina aguilera & pussycat dolls concert with me. i figured it's payback for all the shows he's dragged me to :-) as soon as we approached gm place, it was like we stepped into a whole different world. all the hoochie-mamas were out in their hooker heels, micro-mini-skirts, and cleavage-popping baby-doll tops. good lord! even worse were the young pre-teens dressed the same way (minus the cleavage, hahaha!). granted, i haven't been in a club since we tried to get into pure at caesar's palace a year ago, but at least everyone dressed like ho's was over the age of 21, and not jailbait!
even though i have over 9 months till i turn the big 3-0, being at the concert tonight made me feel very very old. i was probably the most covered-up person at the concert....in my corduroys and black top, along w/my sensible taiga jacket. yikes! the young girl beside me, who chris thought was 12 years old, was showing the most cleavage i've ever seen.....and then i looked down at her hands, and she had a little bling on her ring finger. good god! well, she happened to call her fiance during the intermission and he didn't say "i love you" before hanging up, so she told her friend and then called the lucky guy back :P i don't think she could've been much older than 22 years old....i just don't get it. ugh.
ah, at least tomorrow i can look forward to a quiet bus-ride to my parents house and dinner in peace and quiet.

haven't i suffered enuf?
argh! i can't believe it. i've been wholloped with another sickness.....just last month i suffered through a terrible cold, and now it's the beginning of march and i have a virus. i specifically asked my doctor if it was the flu, and he said my symptoms were not in-line w/the flu. whoo-hoo! thank god for that, since i never get the flu shot! but he did give me a prescription to start on saturday, if i haven't seen any improvement.
today was day 2 of being sick, and i've noticed that between 3-4 p.m. is my best hour. before and after that is just horrific. i eat, i feel sick. i cough, my head starts throbbing. i drink water, then i have to pee every hour. my temperature was 100 degrees yesterday, but it has since come back to normal. now my sick diet consists of apple juice. we'll see how that goes for the next 24 hours. i think i'll get my prescription filled tomorrow....i just can't handle being sick much longer :P

i'm losing steam
argh, i started my blog last year with entries almost every day, sometimes even twice a day! now, i'm lucky if i can come up w/something creative once a week :P
i did a lot last week, including dining out at 2 *new* restaurants. i've even been cooking with new recipes! and yet, i have nothing to say about any of it. i've got stuff coming up, like the PADS open house and graduation that i'm volunteering at, and i'm getting a puppy in mid-march. yet, nothing is inspiring me to write. as i was watching oprah winfrey's leadership academy i thought "wow! this is something fabulous to blog about!", and yet, nothing.
i think i'm in a *writer's* rut. perhaps later this week i'll kick my butt into gear and write something fantabulous. in the meantime, i have my ever-changing vacation itinerary to work on.planning a vacation is a full-time job :P

oh, oh, oh! i DO have something to blog about today!
so, a while ago chris and i ate went for a late dinner w/ang and ryan after volleyball. they had ordered silverfish....a tiny tiny fish (not the horrible bug/pest) that's battered, deep fried and then tossed w/garlic and chili salt. asides from the small black eyeballs staring back at me, i managed to eat a few of the tasty fishies. then, funny enough, we were out for dinner on friday night, and yasmina (a friend of priscilla's) was talking about a tiny fish she ate at dim sum. ang was convinced it was silverfish, but i was skeptical because i thought they were larger than the description from yasmina. yesterday, chris and i went for dim sum, and crazy enough, they served silverfish! so of course we ordered it, and oh my god, it was yum! in my effort to solve the silverfish/not silverfish dilemna, i pulled one apart and discovered that indeed, it was 10% fish, 90% batter. mmm, silverfish!
