apparently i'm an 8 out of 10

due to my neck pain from a week ago, and the fact that i didn't react well to my medication, i decided to try a 30 minute massage therapy session. upon arrival, graham and i chatted about my problems, and then he proceeded with the massage on my back, neck and shoulders. i always thought of myself as a pretty laid-back, relaxed person, but apparently my muscles tell a different story. graham informed me that on a "tightness" scale of 1 to 10 (10 is bad), i rated an 8. he told me to do more stretching exercises on a regular basis to loosen up, and further massage therapy as necessary. well, i made an appointment for monday :-)

so my "tightness" during the massage affected me in two different ways.....first, there was the pain and second, the sporadic giggling. i know that i'm a ticklish person, but i tried to imagine it as pain and not tickle. it worked at first, but after 3 minutes, i was just ready to die. i asked graham if he gets a lot of gigglers, but i think i was a new first. he was massaging the back of my neck and head, and i burst into hysterics. he felt sorry for my hair stylist :P normally, i'm fine w/my head being touched, but depending on how it's being done, i get really ticklish. i'm just messed up, i can't explain it.

so after my 30 minutes i was feeling pretty good, considering graham explained that he didn't get as "deep" as he wanted to due to my low tolerance for pain and high ticklish factor. i'll try some stretches over the weekend and then see how it goes on monday.

Hey, found your blog surfing for massage articles. YES! Giggling can be a reaction to pain relief massage. It's fine, just go with it. There's something in there that needs to get out! Tension is often resolved by expressing emotion - giggling, crying, talking...

I really hope you feel better soon!
