so tonight i cooked a proper meal. it's been awhile! tonight's menu was halibut steaks w/tropical salsa and roast potatoes. i forgot to buy some vegetables to accompany dinner, so i made sweet corn soup as a filler. asides from the labour required to make salsa from scratch, this was a pretty easy (and healthy) meal to prepare. my original recipe called for tuna steaks, but for some reason they're hard to find, so i substituted w/a different white meat. i had my camera out to take a picture, but then i completely forgot about it. such a shame since it was a really good meal. oh well :(
i'm actually glad we ate a light meal, because we didn't eat dinner until almost 9:30 :P chris came home from work early (early for him is 7 p.m.), and decided we would finally seek out a tennis court and play together. i bought a prince racket from tad's (on granville street) several weeks ago, but due to chris' work schedule and my social schedule, we just haven't had time to put it to use. well, i was pretty gung-ho when we first started playing - the first 3 minutes were great! the black lab puppy running around the park was really cute! he kept chasing his ball while his owner talked on her phone. why do ppl do that? i don't think the puppy was older than 10 or 11 weeks. so cute :-)
anyways, back to tennis. so at the 3 minute mark i realized that i suck. we hadn't hit the ball back and forth for more than 2 hits. total. that would be one hit each. hmmmm, this isn't so much fun. we spent more time chasing the balls from the other courts than actually playing. the cute puppy is still running around! but now there's another dog playing w/him. ah, i wish i could run around w/them! oh wait, i am running......after the freaking tennis ball! chris has more skillz than me - i'm not sure what part of the racket i was hitting the ball with. every time it connected, it made a different sound. ah well, perhaps it's cuz chris said i don't even hold the racket properly. chris was kind and went to retrieve the balls that i hit over the fence :P
all i could think of was how hungry i was getting. what was the last thing i ate today? why am i so hungry? hmmm.....damn it, i still have to go home and cook dinner. darn tennis......what was i thinking? i'm not sure if we even played for a full hour, but i was pretty sick and tired of chasing after the tennis ball. now i know how dogs feel after playing fetch. it just isn't amusing anymore. of course the ppl in the courts around us were good players, and rarely crossed into our court. i felt slightly bad for these ppl having to put up w/me apologizing and yelling "HEADS!" is that what you say in tennis if the ball is about to hit someone on the head? what if it's in your own head, and you don't see the ball coming? not to worry, i made it off the court blood-free, but i had a couple close encounters w/the ball. again, i'm not hitting the ball right and i've developed a skill to hit the ball straight up above me. i guess the word would be vertical. i don't think two's or doubles are anywhere in the near future - anyone who played on the same side of the net as me, might risk serious injury. ok, so i don't know any tennis terminology. i know the word "love" is involved somehow. right now, i can't even imagine tennis & love being in the same sentence.
ah well, it was my first time playing tennis in 10 or 12 years. what did i expect? i'm no ______ (fill in the blank w/a female tennis player - i don't actually know any)! i only know pete sampras. does he still play? oh yeah, and kirsten dunst from wimbledon (the movie).
