fondue party!

i hosted my first fondue party last night! we had both dark and white chocolate with a variety of fruit.....honeydew, canteloupe, oranges, strawberries, marshmallows, grapes, kiwis, pineapple, apples and bananas. it was quite a spread if i do say so myself :) so everyone was invited for 9 p.m., however, i got started a bit late and was still cutting fruit until 10 p.m. :P no biggie, right?

after all the chopping, i was getting pretty hungry, so i thought i could get the dark chocolate started since sandra and mike were coming from the canucks game. i turned on the stove, and that's about the only thing i got right :-) i've never been really good at following directions and this was no exception.....i missed the part where it says "once cream is boiling, remove from heat and whisk in chocolate wafers." i got the wafers in, but kept it boiling on the stove and used a wooden spoon. yikes! needless to say the chocolate went a bit funny. it looked pretty bad because the chocolate started to separate, but it still tasted good.

so sandra was in charge of our white chocolate fondue, and she actually followed the instructions, and it turned out great. so my first "cooking" experience taught me several things.....

  1. always follow the instructions! if done incorrectly, bad things can happen to good ppl!
  2. always have a fondue night with ppl who like matches. the flames scared the bejeezus out of me!
  3. i always buy too much food!

but overall, i think the fondue night was a great success. and chris had to admit that he did enjoy it as well (even if he only liked the white chocolate portion) :) yeah, the fondue can stay!

i did take a couple pictures, which i still have to download - we're having technical difficulties right now with that, so when i figure it out, i'll share! i think i have an "after" picture of the boys lounging on the recliners :)

Chocolate is hard to work with, I should have told you that to begin with. Bad teacher!

I always try and follow cooking instructions to the letter the first time around. That way when I next try it and improvise things, I can figure out what works and what doesn't.
